DE HOOP OUTING - CAPE NATURE RESERVE AND MARINE PROTECTED AREA
This favourite destination is approximately 36 000 ha in size, has 1 500 plant species (108 species are rare or threatened, 34 species were recently discovered and are still undescribed), has 86 mammal species - the most notably are the rare bontebok, Cape mountain zebra as well as eland, grey rhebuck, baboon, yellow mongoose, caracal and the occasional leopard.
During the winter and early summer months this is whale watchers paradise - in one of the largest marine protected areas in Africa that provides a sanctuary for a vast and fascinating array of marine life. De Hoop is open for day visitors between 07h00 and 18h00 - situated about 100 km east of Agulhas.
